Job Description

Who we are and what we do

Little, Brown's identity is personified by our innovative, dynamic and free-thinking people. Across our thirteen imprints, you won't find a wider range of titles anywhere in UK publishing. We pride ourselves on quality and diversity. A repeat recipient of the Publisher of the Year award, we're one of the most successful and dynamic publishers in the UK.

Little, Brown is a division of Hachette, one of the largest publishing groups in the UK, with 12 publishing divisions and over 60 imprints. Everyone here is proud to be in the business of opening doors and minds.

Winner of Imprint of the Year at this year's British Book Awards, Piatkus is a market leading commercial fiction imprint and home to an exceptional range of romance and women's fiction authors, from Rebecca Yarros to Nora Roberts, Ana Huang to Julia Quinn, Elsie Silver to Chloe Walsh. We are a friendly, creative and passionate team who welcome input at all levels.

What you'll be doing

Piatkus Fiction is in an incredibly exciting period of growth and we are looking for an energetic, organised and dynamic Editorial Director/Publishing Director to play a key role in shaping the future of the imprint. This role is best suited for someone with several years of publishing experience who is looking for a new challenge.

Responsibilities include: managing a list of commercial fiction authors, acquiring new projects, helping to select and support priority titles across the Piatkus list and developing commercial fiction IP. This role will report to the Fiction Publisher and will work closely with the Piatkus editorial team.

Who we are looking for

You will be an enthusiastic champion of your books from conception through to publication and beyond - collaborating closely with colleagues across the business to bring those books to market. You will have a proven track record of successful publishing, excellent relationships within the industry (both in the UK and internationally), strong negotiation skills, experience in IP development and you will be proactive in seeking out new opportunities for the list. You will be equally comfortable growing the careers of established authors as spotting the bestsellers of the future, taking a commercial, creative and forward-thinking approach to building your list.

If you're an ambitious, experienced commissioner who is passionate about commercial fiction and looking for a new challenge, this role could be for you.
