The Attendance Team at Leicestershire County Council are looking for an Attendance Team Officer - you will be providing administrative support to the team and working with schools, parents/carers and other agencies to ensure every child of compulsory school age receives an education appropriate to their age ability, aptitude and any special needs they may have.

About the Role

As well as providing administrative support to the team the Attendance Team Officer provides information and advice to parents, schools and other agencies about all aspects of the Attendance Team's work, including referrals to the team and school attendance guidance detailed in the Attendance Team's Code of Conduct and Attendance Protocol.

An Officer is also responsible for the preparation of documents relating to the issuing of Penalty Notices and any subsequent prosecution process. This will include the preparation of s9 witness statements and documents for court- so attention to detail is a must for any applicant.

The Attendance Team are currently committed to working in line with new government guidance "Working together to Improve School Attendance "so a working knowledge of that guidance will be an advantage to anyone applying for this role.

About You

To apply for this post, you must have:

  • Experience of providing telephone support and advice to the general public, asking the right questions to get the information required
  • An ability to relate to parents/carers who may be under considerable stress and experience of families facing challenges
  • Experience of accurately capturing, storing and retrieving information to meet organisational and customer needs.
  • An ability to follow procedures and guidelines and understand the importance of keeping up to date and accurate records to the high standard required by court
  • An understanding of the education system in relation to school attendance, including the Attendance Team Code of Conduct and Protocol and the government guidance Working Together to Improve Attendance
  • An ability to work in line with requirements of confidentiality and data protection and be able to deal appropriately with sensitive material.
  • Good personal organisational and time management skills with an ability to prioritise workload and work to agreed deadlines

You must also have an understanding of, and commitment to, equality, diversity and inclusion.
