What the Job Involves

As a Refuse Driver, your primary role is to manage refuse collection operations on site. You will be responsible for driving refuse collection and associated vehicles safely, conducting daily vehicle checks, and maintaining both the vehicle and equipment in a clean and operational state. Key duties include:

  • Supervising refuse collectors and agency employees to ensure efficiency and safety.
  • Completing and returning daily vehicle check forms and reporting any maintenance needs or vehicle collisions.
  • Helping the crew with loading, transporting, and disposing of refuse.
  • Ensuring all operations are in accordance with health and safety standards and customer care policies.
  • Wearing and ensuring the team wears protective clothing and maintaining the Council's corporate image.
  • Participating in training programs, the induction of new employees, and the development of new systems and procedures.
  • Complying with standing orders, financial regulations, equalities policies, and environmental issues.

You will also engage in the Achievement and Development Scheme and ensure the department's safety manual is available in the cab at all times.
