Job summary
We are looking to recruit a Care Advocate to join us at Haven Court. You will hold an NVQ level 2 in Health & Social Care and/or have experience working in the care of older people, re-ablement services and/or those with dementia.
About the Home: We are an innovatively designed and purpose-built, Nursing Home. We specialise in residential and nursing care, dementia care and re-enablement. We aim to provide the highest quality of health and social care services to residents who live across South Tyneside. We are conveniently located on Harton Lane, South Shields.

Main duties of the job
You will have practical experience of implementing person centred care and have effective communication and problem solving skills. You will be caring and compassionate in your approach, be able to work calmly under pressure and have a strong commitment to respecting the rights of the residents at all times.
You will be flexible to meet the needs of the service and be able to meet the requirements of the shift pattern which includes a combination of long days, earlies, late's and rotation onto nightshift. The roster covers 7 days of the week, 24 hours per day. Full time, part time and flexible working is available and consideration would be given to a predominately night shift working roster if requested. Your training and developmental learning needs will be supported.

Job responsibilities

- To provide direct, individualised care to each resident, promoting a caring and safe environment.
- To ensure that residents receive care which is appropriate to their specific needs as directed within the residents care plan.
- Responsible for carrying out tasks as delegated by the registered practitioner/senior carer who has overall accountability for delegating care.
- To comply with Haven Courts vision, values and behavioural compact.
Person Specification
Qualifications
Essential
- Maths and English at level 1 or above (GCSE A E or equivalent).
Desirable
- NVQ Level 2 qualification in health and social care / customer care or equivalent in any subject.
Experience
Essential
- Substantive customer services experience. Or experience of working in a caring role (paid or unpaid).
Skills and Knowledge
Essential
- Ability to communicate messages and instructions accurately to colleagues, both verbally and in writing.
- Demonstrate good customer care skills and the ability to communicate effectively with the Multidisciplinary team, patients, carers and visitors.
- Basic skills of empathy and reassurance.
- Basic keyboard and IT skills.
- Willingness to complete Competency Based Assessments and a Portfolio of evidence, in order to achieve the Care Certificate and any other training related to this role.
Physical Skills
Essential
- Ability to assist patients to move, as per Haven Courts Moving and Handling Policy.
