We are offering an opportunity to join the Hand Therapy service in MSK Outpatients, with opportunities in:
- MDT Hand Trauma Clinics
- Acute orthopaedic management

We provide a job plan that balances a varied caseload of Hand Therapy patients with personal development opportunities. These include involvement in research, clinical leadership, supervision and education.
Candidates need to have broad MSK Hand Therapy skills and be interested in personal and service development.
As an organisation, we are known for supporting personal development, post-graduate education, including MSc level courses.
We are actively engaged in research, leading in trials with Oxford University and the NIHR. We also have close multi-disciplinary working with other services in the acute trust and with the MSK Advanced Practitioner Service.

Main duties of the job
To support leadership and work within the Hand Therapy team in MSK Outpatients, providing an effective and evidence-based service through assessing, planning and implementing treatment programmes.
To deliver therapeutic intervention, acting as a specialist clinician in Hand Therapy, by using the principles of Physiotherapy/Occupational Therapy in an integrated and client-centred way.
To assume responsibility for personal development and supporting the development and supervision of others by CPD (continuing professional development), linked to appraisal.
To support evaluation and service development in the clinical area in line with national and local drivers.

The Therapy service provides Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy to inpatients and outpatients at Gloucestershire Royal and Cheltenham General Hospitals. We are an integrated service providing patient centred care. Our mission is to 'enable people to maximise their potential to live well'
Our Outpatient service was shortlisted for the HSJ Awards and HSJ Awards 2024 for service improvement innovations and performance recovery.
The successful candidate will have a job plan that balances a varied caseload of Hand Therapy patients with personal development opportunities. These will include involvement in research, clinical leadership and the supervision and education of less experienced staff. You will also be integral in the development of students and apprentices.

Qualifications
Essential
- Graduate qualification in Physiotherapy/Occupational Therapy
- Registered with the Health and Care Professions Council
- Completed or working towards completion of relevant post-graduate training e.g. BAHT Level 1 or equivalent
Experience
Essential
- Experience in providing education, appraisals and supervision to staff and students.
- Experience of working in the NHS in the UK
Knowledge/ Skills
Essential
- Deliver a high level of skill in assessment and management of complex patients.
- Competent IT skills
- Excellent communication skills and interpersonal skills
- Knowledge of and ability to apply and utilise evidence based practice
- Work flexibly in response to the changing demands of the service
Desirable
- Have an understanding of the principles of both Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy in order to contribute to the development of an integrated Therapy Service
