Skills and personal attributes needed Caring and kind Cheerful and friendly Keen to support patients with their personal needs including using the toilet Able to follow direct instructions Happy to work in a team but also able to use own initiative Have good listening and communication skills Be well organised Support We offer an initial two-week induction and training programme for HCSWs. This includes learning about the Hospital and all the core skills you will need such as preventing infection and how to provide direct care. You will have some learning with registered nurses and other days specifically for HCSW. For anyone new to care, we then offer two weeks support working alongside an experienced HCSW in clinical practice, learning the role before being included in the staffing numbers. We will support you to achieve a Care Certificate during your first few months if you do not already have one. The care certificate takes you through 15 different standards such as patient confidentiality and nutrition and hydration. Anyone who wishes to progress may be supported to achieve a Health and Social Care qualification, in partnership with Keighley College on our apprenticeship programme. There are further development opportunities if you are interested, with career pathways to become a Nursing Associate and Registered Nurse.
