Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for part time Healthcare Assistants Band 2 to join our Evening and Overnight District Nursing Team.

We are looking for adaptable, reliable and hardworking individuals to join our great team.

The Evening and Overnight District nursing service (ENDNS) is part of the Integrated Community teams, out of hours community nursing provision .

The role of the health care assistant is to work alongside the registered nurse for the service, visiting community nursing patients, for unplanned priority visits in the out of hours period.

The service currently operates with three twilight teams and two-night teams, to cover priority unscheduled visits to patients from 7pm until 8am.

The healthcare assistant will work either twilight (7pm until 1am )or night shifts (10pm until 8am)

We have three part time posts available, shift patterns can be discussed at interview.

Main duties of the job

The main duties of the role include driving, route planning, organisation of equipment /supplies and being chaperone to the registered nurse.

The healthcare assistant will work alongside the registered nurse to provide support for patients as directed, along with manual handling tasks and personal care.

The role requires long periods of driving, to deliver care to patients in their own homes, throughout the county.

Job responsibilities

This role will provide driving and health care support to the evening and overnight registered nurses.

The post holder will work either twilight shifts 7pm until 1am or night shifts 10pm until 8am. This may be flexible if the clinical need occasionally demands this.

Main responsibilities include preparing the equipment and supplies for the shift and transport these to the pool vehicle.

As a Health Care Assistant/ Support Worker you will be responsible for participating and assisting in the delivery of care / services to patients and service users as part of a Mental Health and Social Care Health Service. Health Care Assistant, Social Care Workers and other Healthcare Support Workers employed by the Trust are required to follow the guidance set out in Code of Conduct for Health Care Assistants/ Health Care Support Workers to provide safe and compassionate care of a high standard, and to challenge others who are not.

You will receive direct supervision and partake in reflective practice / training on a regular basis and be required to meet the Care Certificate standards. All successful applicants will also have the opportunity to discuss the prospect of undertaking a Level 3 Healthcare Support Worker Apprenticeship alongside their substantive post. This apprenticeship would include the Level 3 Diploma in Clinical Healthcare.

To manage the stock rotation of overnight supplies using a proforma for guidance.

Checking of equipment and stock levels, checking of service dates of medical devices/equipment and liaise with the team administrator.

Adhere to the trusts policy around driving a trust vehicle, including visual vehicle checks, refuelling, documentation of mileage and reporting of issues.

Ensure the pool car is equipped for the shift, to include completion of checklist, fuel and equipment in the car.

To support the registered nurse to provide personal care as required for patients in their own homes.Personal care, assistance with cleaning, washing a patient /changing of bedding where asked.

Manual handling of patients nursed in bed/transferring bed to chair /use of slide sheets/hoists/stand aid-directed by the registered nurse.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Good general standard of education to GCSE/NVQ level 2 or equivalent experience
  • Driving Qualification

Desirable

  • Advance driving qualification

Length and /or nature of experience

Essential

  • Ability to undertake a range of tasks /follow direction
  • Ability to work in a caring support role
  • Ability to work flexibly to support the needs of the service

Desirable

  • Experience of working in a healthcare /social care setting
  • Experience of community working
  • Experience of driving in a working capacity
