Job summary

Here within the Cancer Nursing Team at York and Scarborough Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, we are looking to recruit a dynamic Cancer Nurse to the post of: Lung Cancer Nurse - developmental role - 30 hours per week - fixed term for 12 months.

This post is based in York Hospital but travel to other Trust bases may be required.

The role requires a Registered Nurse who can work within their scope of practice and of the job description, and support the team to deliver safe effective care to our patients. Furthermore, the appointee must be equipped with excellent communication skills and the ability to work within a diverse multi-disciplinary group of clinicians, patients, and allied healthcare providers.

As this is a developmental post a competency framework will be provided, offering the successful candidate knowledge and skills to apply for a Band 6 post within a CNS team, should one become available. (usual recruitment processes will apply).

You must be self-motivated, enthusiastic, organised, computer literate and able to demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills with a commitment to continued personal development.

Main duties of the job

  • Maintain a high standard of patient focused care in accordance with York and Scarborough Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust policies and procedures
  • Maintain a safe and clean working environment
  • Provide assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of nursing care for patients, ensuring accurate written records are kept.
  • Communicate with patients and carers to ensure they have access to appropriate information.
  • Promote and maintain positive relationships between all staff involved in the care of the patient
  • Act in accordance with the Nursing and Midwifery Council Code of Conduct
  • Undertake duties on different wards/departments as and when required by service demands
  • Demonstrate personal responsibility for compliance with infection control policies and procedures
  • Education and Training

Person Specification

Experience

Essential

  • oKnowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and Outlook).
  • oKnowledge of current issues within health care
  • oKnowledge of the timed patient pathways
  • oThorough knowledge of complex medical terminology.
  • oExperience of working in a customer focused environment
  • oKnowledge of the Specialty

Qualifications

Essential

  • oA registered nurse with a current NMC PIN number - level 1
  • oEducated to diploma level or equivalent.
  • oEvidence of CPD

Desirable

  • oRecognised teaching/ assessing qualification.
  • oEvidence of Audit & Standard setting within healthcare
  • oHealthcare degree
