Job Title: Mental Health Recovery Worker Hours of work: 37.5 Service opening hours: Monday to Friday 9am-5pm Salary: £24,960 with progression to £27,560 Per annum, pro rata Base: Newcastle About us Mental Health Matters (MHM) is a national charity with over 35 years of experience in delivering high-quality mental health and social care services. About the role Everything about MHM is people focused, our people are central to delivering the highest quality of service and care to our clients. Our Newcastle Supported Housing service promotes mental health recovery by delivering targeted support, with the aim of helping people progress to more independent living. The people who live here are generally supported for up to 9hrs per week, with some flexibility, depending on their needs. As well as a range of mental health needs, clients may also have other support needs such as learning disabilities, physical health issues and substance misuse. We support people with a range of activities that are designed mainly to help people manage and maintain their tenancy, including applying for benefits, help with budgeting, etc. whilst also promoting goal-based activities such as building confidence in the community, developing supportive networks, or sourcing training opportunities, to promote independence and social inclusion. We also aim to promote health-based outcomes such as harm minimization, alcohol reduction and support with substance misuse. The ideal candidate should have experience of working within a community based, mental health setting, with the ability to inspire, engage and motivate people. You should have a proven ability to identify barriers, understand needs and support people to achieve their goals. The role will include one to one engagement, facilitating activities within the service and community, administrative tasks, sign posting and engaging people in other provision. Therefore, as a Mental Health Support Worker, you will be competent in working alone and as part of a team. About you You will have experience of working with Mental Health and will be able to inspire and engage people and have the ability to identify barriers and understand client needs, while possessing excellent motivational skills. This will include one to one engagement and facilitating group-based activities, sign posting and engaging people in mainstream provision. You will have an understanding of working with people with a variety of complex needs including mental health, learning, physical and substance misuse would be an advantage for this post. Your knowledge of working within a community-based service is essential and will have equipped you with the relevant communication and interpersonal skills required for the role. Driving license desired but not essential. It is essential that you hold a NVQ Health and Social Care level 2 or level 3 and be willing to develop further as the role requires.
