Mesothelioma Clinical Nurse Specialist
Job Description
Patient/Clinical Care (in addition to the main duties above) Establishing close liaison and communication with and between all disciplines involved in the care of patients and their families in order to facilitate a coordinated service. Develop a productive relationship with patients and families and act as an advocate for staff, patients and relatives at all times. Encourage provision of and recruitment to trials locally and across cancer network. Attend and promote support group locally and or within the region. Encourage all patients to connect with Mesothelioma UK and Macmillan Cancer support. *Participation in the support line rota will commence on completion of the Meso Essentials Education Programme for Band 6 nurses only Information Resources Collect and contribute contemporary data for: o Health Board data systems (i.e. somerset/Infoflex). o National Mesothelioma Audit. o Mesothelioma UK CNS Dashboard. Quality monitoring of matters relating to mesothelioma (i.e., data completeness/coding). Support Mesothelioma UK initiated audit projects locally/within Cancer network. Promote and raise awareness of Mesothelioma UK patient information resources. Service Development In conjunction with the Lung Cancer Clinical Nurse Specialist initiate research projects and audits to identify gaps in service provision and support service improvements as appropriate. Develop/deliver mesothelioma education within the Health Board and Cancer network. Ensure issues relating to mesothelioma are included in relevant meetings. Provide regular updates to relevant Health Board meetings, Welsh cancer network and regional meeting on mesothelioma developments via email/e-newsletter. Support other clinical nurse specialists across Wales to care for patients with mesothelioma. Attend Action Mesothelioma Day activities within Wales (where no activities exist the post holder is expected to highlight the event within their own Health Board). Support development of specialist mesothelioma multi-disciplinary team within Region. Contribute to the development of clinical information material through accredited processes. Support marketing and fundraising for the benefit of Mesothelioma UK and Macmillan Cancer support. Support Mesothelioma UK projects, research, and developments. Professional Development Undertake Meso Essentials education programme. Attend and contribute to Mesothelioma UK CNS Professional Forum Meetings (minimum of 2 in a 12-month period). Contribute to the development of the Mesothelioma UK CNS team. Complete annual report detailing activity/impact and share with Mesothelioma UK and host Health Board General Requirements Acts at all times in accordance with the NMC Code and within the principles of the scope of Professional Practice and ensures other members of the team also work within these. To ensure safe and high standards of nursing care are maintained in accordance with policies and procedures and National Cancer Service Guidelines. Participate in keeping accurate and legible records and be aware of the legal implications of these documents. To be competent in the use of the computer systems and developing the skills of others. To undertake regular individual performance review in conjunction with the Lung Cancer Clinical Nurse Specialist and agree personal development plans in line with service objectives and NMC requirements. To have an understanding of the principles of Clinical Governance and its implementation in practice. To encourage and implement evidence-based practice.
