Job Summary The post holder will be a clinical expert in the field of Palliative Care and will be expected to fulfil the 4 domains of consultant level practice, as set out in NHS Englands Multi-professional consultant-level practice capability and impact framework (2020) working across the Fylde Coast. They will practice at an advanced clinical level and exercise high levels of judgement, discretion and decision making in clinical care. The role is intended to be split 50/50 between: - Direct autonomous Clinical Practice, potentially working across Palliative Care services (inpatient, community, and hospital liaison teams) on the Fylde Coast. They may have direct clinical responsibility for a patient cohort and will be expected to provide leadership and support for other Clinicians. Provide leadership, education, and Clinical Supervision for a team of Advanced Clinical Practitioners working clinically within the service (there are currently 5 directly clinical ACPs within the service). Strategic and enabling Leadership. Provide values-based leadership across the care pathway, services, and systems in complex and changing situations. Research and innovation Develop a knowledge-rich and inquiry culture across the service and system that contributes to research outputs and has a positive effect on development, quality innovation, increasing capacity and capability and making systems more effective. Consultancy approaches for putting in place and sustaining expertise across the system. Establish expertise across the system by using consultancy approaches and opportunities that have maximum impact on practice, services, communities, and populations, and which add to and sustain workforce capacity and capability. MAIN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES - To provide senior clinical leadership to the nursing and clinical staff of the palliative care service - Advise and co-lead on the future planning of strategic directions and service developments in relation to the palliative care service. - Participate in clinical supervision as a supervisor and supervisee. - Liaise with health and social care professionals both internal and external to the Hospice, acting as a source of specialist palliative care advice. - Contribute to the delivery of education to all staff groups. - Act as Clinical Supervisor to the Clinical Advanced Clinical Practitioners within the organisation, who are qualified or in training; ensure they are supported and meet the competency framework as set out. - Be available to Clinically support Doctors in training (including GP trainees) - Participate in weekly Specialist Palliative Care Multi-disciplinary team meetings. - Attend relevant meetings internal and external to the Hospice and participate in the development of policies, procedures and standards pertaining to the clinical activity of the Hospice. - Liaise with partners, such as Blackpool Teaching Hospitals, Lancaster University and Hospices UK, to facilitate effective and appropriate research, actively involving self in the University Hospice model. - Work collaboratively with the Palliative Medicine Medical Consultants across the Fylde Coast to ensure delivery, continuity, and development of specialist palliative care. - On appointment, as a minimum, should be working towards joining the Palliative Care 2nd on-call rota for the Fylde Coast.
