Overview of the Organisation Leeds Teaching Hospitals The role of Grant Funding and Development Manager will sit within the Research and Innovation CSU which supports research delivery across multiple clinical teams and Key Support Services within the Trust. As part of the central R&I infrastructure, the role will sit within the R&I Business Team which is located in the Research and Innovation Building at St Jamess Hospital. Other members of staff in this team include Business Managers, Assistant Business Managers, Contracts Manager and administrative staff. The team supports the business functions of R&I. The postholder will also work closely with the Innovation team, based in the Innovation Pop-Up at Leeds General Infirmary. JOB DESCRIPTION Job Purpose The Leeds Teaching Hospitals Research & Innovation Department strategy aims to increase the volume of research carried out in the organisation. One of its key targets is to increase the amount of research funded through grants and the associated grant income. The purpose of this role is to grow the portfolio of grants from government (NIHR, Research and Innovation UK), EU and other research funders through strategic engagement with funders and identification of relevant funding opportunities. The post-holder will be responsible for identifying and communicating relevant funding opportunities to staff across the Trust. They will co-ordinate and manage the bid development process (particularly for major bids) and help build knowledge within research-active staff of how to craft successful research funding bids. They will need to nurture constructive relationships with clinical staff and other members of the Trust, other NHS Research Departments, research funders and staff working with the University of Leeds and other Higher Education Institutes (HEIs). The post holder will work in partnership with the Leeds Hospitals Charity, the Charitable arm of Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust to run their programme of research grant funding calls and work tactically with them to leverage funding for research from the wider charity sector and via Leeds Hospital Charity own philanthropic fund-raising activities. Job Dimensions To work as part of the Research and Innovation team leading on the identification and communication of relevant funding opportunities in line with the priorities identified in the Research and Innovation strategy, key research themes and priorities as identified with Research & Innovation Leads from each Clinical Service Unit. Working in a matrix environment across multiple teams, actively work with them to open up and expand high priority research collaborations, to win new business and diversify research income sources. Person Specification Essential Masters or equivalent qualification/experience is essential Evidence of continuous professional development Demonstrable knowledge and understanding of Health Research Evidence of negotiation skills and the ability to co-ordinate multi-professional groups, including clinical professionals and academics Evidence of operational planning and implementation Knowledge of research funding landscape and application process Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work as part of a team Self-starter with a proactive, can-do attitude and demonstrable leadership skills High quality interpersonal and negotiation skills Desirable Experience of statistical analysis Project management qualification Experience of securing research funding (particularly from NIHR and charities) Experience in developing research strategies and supporting their delivery Disclosure and Barring Service Check This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly known as CRB) to check for any previous criminal convictions.
