WHAT YOULL DO Duties will include: Regular outpatient and hand trauma clinics at University Hospital Southampton and associated facilities to include Lymington Hospital and Royal South Hants Hospital Operating sessions both elective and hand trauma and general trauma Attendance at the daily Trauma meetings to advise the general trauma service on hand, wrist and elbow injuries Covering clinic and theatre sessions for the Consultants and Associate Specialist as required Supervising the treatment of patients in University Hospital Southampton Carrying out regular ward rounds as appropriate Participation in clinical audit within the unit Engagement in Research. Outcome measurement and Journal reviewing Active involvement in the training and supervision of junior Medical staff on ward rounds, in theatre and in clinics, including the teaching of medical and nursing students On-call duties (General trauma) as appropriate This is a provisional job plan and will be mutually agreed with the Clinical Supervisor and Clinical Lead according to the training needs and interests of the Fellow as well as the service needs of the Unit. WHAT WERE LOOKING FOR The successful candidate will be expected to be proficient in minor hand surgery. Candidates are required to submit a logbook summary of Hand trauma and elective hand procedures prior to shortlisting. The Fellow is given active support with clinical research and will be expected to present and publish this work as appropriate. This post does not attract an NTN and does not lead to the award of CCT, requiring additional experience. Prospective educational approval from PMETB will need to be sought if time in this post is required to count for CCT. Possession of FRCS (Tr & Orth) or equivalent is an essential requirement of the post. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION Appointment will be made under local contractual terms and conditions of service for Trust appointed (non-training fellow doctors and dentists). Successful candidates will have an educational framework equivalent to training grade doctors, and there will be a named educational supervisor assigned at the start of the post. The opportunity for Continued Professional Development (CPD) is highly supported and encouraged by the Trust, with options available to take study leave. All licensed doctors must meet the GMC requirements for revalidation and there will be an annual appraisal to support this process. Grades for Trust appointed (non-training) fellows will be paid a basic salary at a nodal pay point linked to the grade, at the rate set out in the National Medical and Dental pay circular. Basic salary detailed below plus any additional remuneration (as applicable) for hours set out in the doctors work schedule (e.g. additional hours, weekend allowance, and any hours which attract enhanced pay) Basic Salary MT05 £70,425 Travelling expenses will not be paid for attending interview Please note that GMC registration (with a licence to practice) and right to work in the UK are essential for this role. Successful applicants will already have GMC registration or will be able to demonstrate they are eligible. Applicants requiring Tier 2 sponsorship should ensure they meet the Home Office application criteria prior to submitting an application.
