Job Description
ROLE OF THE JOB
At Northumberland Fire and Rescue Service (NFRS), communicating and engaging with our residents is more important than ever.
To support us with this, we're looking for someone that's passionate about external communications, is creative and innovative in their approach, and who places a firm focus on demonstrating how it makes a real difference.
As a Media Communications Officer, you'll join a talented, hard-working and award-winning Council communications team, with a remit to enhance our external communications capacity.
No two days are the same - you could be organising an interview on location for the Chief Fire Officer with the BBC one day, while presenting your ideas for an integrated communications campaign the next.
The person we are looking for will have experience of developing and delivering communications plans in a large and complex organisation and will help deliver both NFRS and the wider Council's key priorities and build its reputation with employees, residents and partners.
You will have good knowledge of local, regional and national media and also an awareness of local government procedures.
You will have experience of effectively monitoring and evaluating your work, ensuring communications channels and engagement activity are engaging and make a positive difference.
REQUIREMENTS OF THE JOB
You will have excellent communication skills and experience of writing and editing engaging copy for a wide range of external communications channels - with a proven ability to successfully manage multiple projects.
You must be able to work to tight deadlines and work both as part of a team and on your own initiative. You must also be experienced with digital marketing including social media, using website content management systems and e-communications.
The successful candidate will be required to produce effective communications and keep a calm head in an emergency. Excellent relationships with partner organisations will also be fundamental to the role.
Previous experience as part of an out-of-hours on-call system would be useful - although not essential.
