Assistant Management Accountant - Service Charges

Job Description

We are looking for a detail-oriented Assistant Management Accountant with a passion for service charge accounting to join our Finance Business Partnering team. This role is essential in supporting the accurate and timely preparation of management accounts, focusing on the service charge accounts to ensure financial integrity and transparency. You will be pivotal in driving improvements to reporting processes and collaborating with various internal teams to deliver financial insightful and actionable information.

Key Responsibilities

  • Service Charge Accounts: Reconcile service charge accounts to ensure the accuracy of month-end and year-end financials, maintaining financial integrity.
  • Month-End Reporting: Assist in preparing monthly management accounts and variance analysis against the budget with insightful commentaries for the service charge team, ensuring that reports are accurate and delivered in a timely manner.
  • Journal Management: Prepare and post service charge journals, including accruals, prepayments, and adjustments, ensuring correct nominal ledger entries.
  • Budgeting & Forecasting: Support the preparation of annual budgets and quarterly forecasts for service charges, and drive forecasts against these budgets.
  • Audit Support: Contribute to the production of annual financial statements, working closely with auditors to ensure compliance and accuracy.
  • Collaboration: Work with the Rent and Service Charge teams and Finance Business Partnering teams to improve reporting processes, ensuring that service charge information is clear and actionable.
  • Process Improvement: Identify areas for improvement in current service charge processes and develop action plans to enhance efficiency and reporting accuracy.

Who We're Looking For

We welcome applications from individuals who are either progressing through their professional qualifications (ACCA, CIMA, CA, ACA) or have significant relevant experience, particularly in service charge accounting within the social housing sector.

Essential Skills and Experience:

  • Part-qualified accountant (ACCA, CIMA, CA, ACA) with a commitment to achieving full qualification.
  • Experience in management accounting, with a strong focus on service charge accounts.
  • Advanced Excel skills and strong technical competence in accounting systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to prepare budgets, forecasts, and financial reports.
  • Proven ability to reconcile service charge accounts and maintain financial accuracy.
  • Strong analytical skills, with an eye for detail and a passion for data integrity.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively across teams and with external auditors.
