We are seeking an experienced IT Infrastructure Engineer to ensure the smooth operation, reliability, and scalability of our IT systems across our retail locations and ecommerce platform. As an IT Infrastructure Engineer, you will be responsible for managing, maintaining, and optimising the company's IT infrastructure, supporting both our physical stores and digital operations. You will play a key role in ensuring that our network, server, and cloud environments are secure, stable, and aligned with business needs. You will collaborate with various teams to implement solutions that drive performance and reliability and respond to technical issues that impact the day-to-day operations of our stores and online platform.
Core areas of responsibility will be; Network & Systems Administration, Retail Systems Support Cross Collaboration, Cloud & Virtualisation Management, Server & Storage Management, Security & Compliance, Project Implementation & Incident & Problem Management.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage and maintain the company's IT infrastructure, including network systems (LAN/WAN), servers (on-premise and cloud), and storage systems.
- Ensure high availability and reliability of all infrastructure components.
- Monitor network performance, troubleshoot issues, and ensure efficient connectivity across all retail locations and head office.
- Oversee the infrastructure that supports in-store systems such as point-of-sale (POS), payment processing, inventory management, and store networking.
- Work closely with store managers and IT support teams to resolve technical issues.
- Implement, configure, and maintain store-level IT systems, including wireless networks, firewalls, and other network security devices.
- Manage cloud infrastructure (Azure, AWS) for ecommerce and corporate operations, ensuring scalability, security, and performance.
- Implement and maintain virtualised environments (e.g., VMware, Hyper-V) to support business continuity and operational efficiency.
- Ensure proper backup and disaster recovery strategies are in place for both cloud and on-premise systems.
- Administer Windows and Linux servers, ensuring they are patched, secure, and optimised for performance.
- Manage storage systems to support both retail and ecommerce operations, ensuring adequate capacity and backup solutions.
- Support database administration tasks and work closely with the development team to ensure backend systems are running optimally.
- Implement and maintain security protocols and systems to protect the company's infrastructure, including firewalls, VPNs, and endpoint security.
- Ensure compliance with industry regulations such as GDPR and PCI DSS, maintaining secure environments for payment processing and customer data.
- Perform regular vulnerability assessments and apply necessary patches and updates to ensure a secure environment.
- Participate in the planning and implementation of IT infrastructure projects.
- Act as a key point of contact for infrastructure-related incidents, working to resolve issues quickly and minimise disruption to business operations.
- Conduct root cause analysis for recurring issues, implementing long-term solutions to improve stability and performance.
- Provide documentation and knowledge sharing with the wider IT team to support continuous improvement.
- Provide input and recommendations for improving IT processes, tools, and technologies to enhance overall business efficiency.
What you'll need to be our IT Infrastructure Engineer:
- Proven experience as an IT Infrastructure Engineer or similar role, ideally within a retail or ecommerce environment.
- Strong knowledge of network administration, including LAN/WAN, VPN, firewalls, and wireless networks.
- Experience managing Windows and Linux servers, as well as cloud infrastructure (Azure, AWS).
- Familiarity with virtualisation technologies such as VMware, Hyper-V, and experience managing storage systems.
- Solid understanding of IT security principles, including firewalls, network security, and data protection (PCI DSS, GDPR).
- Experience with disaster recovery planning, backup solutions, and business continuity practices.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills, with a focus on root cause analysis and long-term fixes.
- Familiarity with service management tools (e.g., ServiceNow, Jira) and ITIL processes.
- Ideally hold relevant certifications such as CCNA, MCSE, CompTIA Network+, or AWS/Azure certifications and ITIL Foundation or higher certification.
- Knowledge of scripting languages (e.g., PowerShell, Bash) to automate tasks and manage infrastructure would be ideal but not essential.
- Experience using Terraform or Infrastructure as code would be beneficial

Salary: £35,000 to £50,000 depending on experience plus
