As our Data Architect, you will be designing, implementing, and maintaining Seasalt's data architecture to support our strategic objectives. You'll provide architectural oversight of data from end-to-end within our systems and ensure that Seasalt's use of data is aligned with best practice standards, principles and frameworks.

We would love to hear from you if you are currently a Data Architect, but we are happy to consider applications if you are currently a Database Administrator, Senior Data Engineer or other equivalent role.

This role is offered as a full-time, permanent vacancy and is based remotely within the UK, with occasional travel to our Cornwall head offices.

You'll help us by:

Defining the Data Architecture Vision and Strategy and the Data Governance Framework (i.e. theguidelines, security, protocols, processes, and rules for data in our enterprise).

Developing and maintaining data standards and principles in conjunction with the Data Governance Manager. Working closely with the data and architecture teams to align standards and principles across the technology function. Improving overall data quality, including the validation of data.

Ensuring data architecture aligns with wider technology and business goals. Working closely with solution architects to make sure systems are designed and specified in accordance with the appropriate data architecture. Designing and implementing data models to support business requirements, ensuring data integrity, reliability and performance. Being the expert in the concepts and principles of data modelling and producing relevant data models across multiple subject areas.

You'll lead on database systems efficiency, including: configuration, performance tuning and troubleshooting. Ensuring the Seasalt data stores are efficient and effective. Making sure we have consistency and accuracy of data across the organisation. Identifying data lineage, provenance and structure across Seasalt. Having technical oversight of our data platforms, leading and continuously improving the ways in which we process, store and retrieve data.

Key will be your ability to communicate between technical and non-technical stakeholders. Facilitating difficult discussions within multidisciplinary teams and with diverse senior stakeholders. You'll communicate findings using appropriate methods and shape communications for the audience, turning complex data into clear and simple stories.

You'll define and support delivery of data roadmaps, over a 3-5-year horizon, which balance known and anticipated demand alongside improved alignment with data principles.

The skills you'll be sharing with the team:

  • Demonstrable knowledge and experience in a data architecture role within a similar sized (or larger) business and with significant exposure to cloud-based Azure solutions.
  • A Degree in a numerate subject (scientific or technical orientated).
  • Recognised qualifications or equivalent experience in:

-Data architecture and design, or

-Data management and governance, or

-Data modelling, or

-Database administration and performance tuning, or

-Integration design/governance.

  • Able to demonstrate experience of:

-Data architecture and strategic thinking

-Turning business problems into data design

-Data modelling and delivering data models to support the data strategy

-Communicating data concepts, data analysis and structured techniques

-Producing data sets and data assets for analysis and reporting

-Data governance and data management tools and techniques

-Implementing data standards

-Database administration, performance tuning and query optimisation.

  • Experience with Azure data services, including: Azure Synapse Analytics, Azure Data Factory, Azure SQL Database, Azure Databricks, Azure Data Lake Storage, Azure Purview, SQL Server, MySQL, Power BI, Spark and Parquet.
  • Experience and knowledge of best practice in the provision of data, including handling unstructured and streaming data.
  • Experience in key integration platforms and patterns: extract, transform and load (ETL) and event-based data integration, service-orientated architecture (SOA), enterprise services bus architecture (ESB) and supporting technologies (e.g. UDDI, WSDL, BPEL, EDI).
  • Good understanding of developing trends in industry and related technologies to provide a context for the development of Seasalt's strategy.
  • Strong analytical and conceptual reasoning skills.
  • Highly effective communication skills. Able to articulate complex issues and concepts to a wide range of recipients, both written and verbally.
  • Self-motivated, organised, pro-active, commercially focussed and results driven.
