Are you a creative and detail-oriented designer looking to make an impact in a growing retail environment?

We are seeking a talented Retail Designer to join our team, reporting to the Retail Design Manager (UK&I). In this role, you'll play a key part in planning, designing, and producing drawing packages for all Seasalt shops and design projects, while taking the lead on individual projects to support the store opening program and department goals. You'll be responsible for adhering to and enhancing Brand Retail Design standards, creating technical drawings for construction, decoration, and display fixtures, and ensuring that designs are reflective of Seasalt's style and delight our customers. A strong understanding of construction and the inner workings of retail units is essential, and the ideal candidate will be deadline-driven, flexible with working hours and travel, and possess excellent communication skills.

Please note this is a full time, permanent role. The preference for this role is to be based in Cornwall with a minimum of 2 days per week at our Cornwall Head Office. We would also consider remote applicants based across the South West of the UK who can commit to monthly travel to our Cornwall Head Office.

You'll help us by:

As a Retail Designer, you will take the lead on individual design projects, guiding them from inception and concept design through to handover and the publication of as-built drawings. You'll be responsible for producing and coordinating a comprehensive project drawing package that covers all areas of retail design, ensuring they are checked prior to sign off. This includes expanding the drawing package and associated documentation to support the growth of the business across various channels, including retail, pop-up stores, 3rd party collaborations, wholesale, and franchise.

You'll maintain clear communication with suppliers and fit-out contractors, issuing up-to-date and accurate information in a timely manner. Additionally, you will prepare design proposals, including concept boards, sketches, technical drawings, visuals, and specifications, to achieve approvals both internally and externally.

In this role, you'll also focus on developing new concepts, design features, and decorative elements by staying up to date with design trends. You'll attend design shows, conduct research trips, and utilise the company's design library to continually evolve creative solutions. Liaising with suppliers on design details and specifications, including supplier visits when necessary, will also be a key aspect of the role. Furthermore, you'll attend new shop openings to complete snagging and oversee installations as needed to ensure the smooth execution of designs.

The skills you'll be sharing with the team:

  • Degree in Interior Design, Architecture (or equivalent) or demonstratable experience of working in an architectural firm or design team (for a Fashion Retail brand would be desirable)
  • Fluent in AutoCAD with proficiency in Adobe Suite
  • Experience owning architectural construction documents, including floor plans, sections, elevations, and design details
  • Proven experience in the end-to-end design process, from concept to site implementation
  • Strong understanding of construction, building regulations, finishes, and FF&E
  • Ability to interpret brand values and guidelines
  • Coordination with other teams to ensure interdepartmental success and project efficiency
  • Skilled in driving cost savings while adhering to project budgets and managing team running costs
  • Proven presentation skills at a high level, both internally and externally
  • Proficient in SketchUp (desirable, not essential)
  • Experience conducting measured surveys and familiarity with the planning application process (desirable, not essential)
  • Experience with national and international new shop rollouts (desirable, not essential)
  • Ability to build and manage positive supplier relationships to sustain an effective supply chain
  • Goal focused, able to prioritise & multi-task to meet concurrent deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong organisation, planning and communication skills
  • High level of accuracy, an eye for detailwith a creative flair
