As a member of the Four Rivers Nursing Home within People Directorate, you will support the achievement of these key priorities, making a real difference to the lives of people in Shropshire. Four Rivers Nursing home was opened in January 2007 by Andrew Lansley MP. It is situated on the outskirts of the historic market town of Ludlow and benefits from picturesque views over the Clee Hill. The home is purpose built under a Private Finance Initiative to provide quality nursing care to its residents. It has 40 bedrooms and is registered by Care Quality Commission (CQC). The home is divided into four units of 10 bedrooms these are named after the four local rivers Teme, Corve, Onny and Clun. Overview of your role The Deputy Nursing Manager must be qualified competent and experienced to assist the Registered Manager to ensure that the home meets its stated purpose, aims and objectives. To support the achievement of developmental and divisional objectives as outlined in service plans and to work to relevant divisional, professional and national occupational standards. To assist the Nursing Home Manager in managing the provision for a high standard in care for residents in accordance with policies and procedures, and ensure that statutory legislation is adhered to. To ensure compliance with all relevant legislation including The Health and Safety at Work Act (1973) and The Health and Social Care act 2008. To deputise for the Nursing Home Manager as and when required. Who will your manager be and what will you be responsible for? You will be: ▪ ▪ reporting to Nursing Home manager who is in turn responsible for your health and safety, training and development. responsible and accountable for 40 FTE members of staff, acting in a supervisory/managerial capacity, monitoring performance, supporting development and undertaking annual appraisals. ▪ expected to lead and/or contribute to a range of projects and build relations with both internal and external partners in order achieve specified outcomes but will not have direct authority over those involved. ▪ Responsible for preparing responses in line with Shropshire Council's corporate processes and national/regulatory/statutory processes (e.g. complaints, MP enquiries, Information Governance requests, customer enquiries, media enquiries, HR staff investigations etc..). These responses should be in line with the quality and timescale expectations set out within Shropshire Council's published procedures and/or case allocation emails and discussions. ▪ Responsible for completing within expected timescales all mandatory corporate and role specific training. Training requirements will be detailed in your corporate induction and Personal Development Plan (PDP). Courses are accessed via the council Learning Management System via the Intranet. What will you be doing? ▪ Assist the Nursing Home Manager in managing the Nursing Home Team and lead the staff in providing services that promote independence of service users. This will include care planning that fully involves service users and their families. ▪ Assist the Nursing Home Manager to ensure the safety and well-being of residents including the safe custody and administration of drugs in line with current legislation and Directorate Policies and Procedures. ▪ Liaise with Social Care, Health and other professionals and family to ensure that residents' needs are met. ▪ Assist the Nursing Home Manager in ensuring that management systems are in place to comply with The Health and Social Care Act 2008 including Quality Assurance, Complaints and Protection. ▪ Report on any Adult Protection issues in line with Directorate Policy. ▪ Ensure that any necessary repairs to the building or equipment are brought to the attention of the designated person within the Adult Services Directorate. ▪ To assist the Nursing Home Manager in the recruitment of staff in line with Directorate Policy. Must comply with any Codes of Practice issued by the General Social Care Council relating to the employment of Social Care Workers and relevant Nursing Standards. ▪ To assist in the preparation of staff rosters ensuring that appropriate staffing levels and skill mix is maintained at all times. ▪ To assist the Nursing Home in any financial matters associated with the running of the home. Working within Shropshire Council Financial Policies and Procedures liaise with support services to ensure that all budget headings are maintained within the annual budget allocated. ▪ To assist the Nursing Home Manager in promoting continuing personal and professional/vocational developments of self and staff through staff performance process. ▪ Ensure that the individual PIN is always active and current. (if applicable see person specification) ▪ Identify and contribute to staff training programmes. ▪ To comply with safe systems of work in accordance with the Directorate's Health, Safety and Welfare policies and procedures. ▪ To promote understanding of issues related to equal opportunities and anti-discriminatory practice, and to ensure that service delivery reflects these principals. ▪ The postholder may be required from time to time to undertake other duties commensurate with the designation and grading of the post. It is expected that the postholder will deputise for the Registered Manager in their absence. ▪ Where necessary participate in internal and external audit. What are your conditions of Service The conditions of service are those laid down by Shropshire Council, which have been adopted and amended as necessary from those laid down by the National Joint Council for Local Government Services. You will be based at Four Rivers Nursing Home, Ludlow. Depending on the needs of the service and organisation you may be required to work at any of the other Shropshire Council premises. Your post is subject to the following: ▪ The post is Permanent, for 30 - 37 hours per week, ▪ Work will be a combination of office work and patient care delivery and management ▪ The post is subject to the Council's annualised hours scheme as implemented within the specific work area. This post carries eligibility to join the Local Government Pension Scheme. Information about this will be sent with any formal offer of appointment. Annual leave entitlement is a pro rata flat rate scheme of 207 hours (28 days) annual leave plus bank holidays, with five days extra awarded to those staff with five years local government service giving an entitlement of 244 hours (33 days). Two days of an employee's allowance (pro rota for part time staff) must be taken at Christmas for any potential Christmas closures. Employees who work in a building/service which is required to open over the Christmas period, the two days leave (pro rota) can be carried over into your next leave year but must be used by the end of March.] The appointment is subject to THREE month's notice in writing on either side. The appointment is subject to six months' satisfactory probationary service during which time the notice period will be one week on either side.
