Who You Are

We are looking to appoint a dynamic, driven, innovative and forward-thinking Equipment Lead to join our service; to work under the direct supervision of the Principal Occupational Therapist and the Commissioning Lead. Outstanding communication, problem-solving, and clinical reasoning skills are vital for the success of this role. As an autonomous role, you will be expected to hold a small caseload of complex cases, have extensive knowledge of community equipment and its application in supporting people to remain in the community, maintain engagement in purposeful activities and occupational pursuits.

  • Qualified Occupational Therapist with registration with the Health and Social Care Professional Council (HSCPC).
  • Experience working across health and social care systems with multiple stakeholders.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills, including influencing and negotiating skills.
  • Ability to apply Occupational Therapy ethical principles and guide professional practice.
  • Strong project management, coordination, and workload management skills.
  • High personal drive and commitment to excellent customer care, setting standards for other staff.

What the Job Involves

This is a unique role that supports a system-wide approach across Health and Social Care to ensure the appropriate and cost-effective prescription of assistive equipment and minor adaptations, ensuring excellence in this practice area. You will enable evidence-based decision-making for equipment provision, working closely with acute hospital colleagues and a range of community health and social care professionals.

  • Support the overall budget and resource management objectives, involving management of the budget.
  • Deliver equipment training and demonstrations to prescribers.
  • Organize and chair equipment operational meetings.
  • Deal with escalations, give advice on general equipment prescriptions, and keep the equipment catalogue up to date.
  • Coordinate and chair operational meetings for continuous dialogue with prescribers.
  • Provide advice to clinical and non-clinical prescribers in relation to equipment and minor adaptation provision.
  • Monitor and manage discrepancies in equipment billing and assist with invoicing.
  • Ensure robust systems for appropriate and timely prescription of equipment.
  • Develop innovation and value for money in equipment services.
  • Work as part of the ASC Commissioning & Operational team, reporting to the Principal Occupational Therapist and Commissioning Lead.
