CPI Data Administrator / Collector - 2 Days per month

A CPI data administrator / collector is responsible for collecting the prices of specific items on a monthly basis in a selection of retail premises across a dedicated town, or city. It is important work that impacts every industry in the country and is taken on two set days every month - always a Monday and Tuesday - with the potential for a short collection on a Friday in some areas.

CPI Collectors work approximately 12-15 hours over these two set days per MONTH, it may take longer to begin with while you are learning store layouts.

If you are over 18, have a vehicle & a valid UK driving licence, and want to earn money whilst visiting shops - then this is the role for you!

From April 2024: £13.44 per hour (£12.00 per hour + £1.44 holiday pay) outside London, plus travel expenses.

We will provide you with comprehensive fully-paid training to set you up for success in the role.

About the Role

The Office for National Statistics (ONS) is the Government Department responsible for producing the Consumer Prices Index (CPI), the most used measure of inflation in the UK economy; including the amount benefits, pensions, etc. are uplifted each year. Collectors from Kantar Public collect the prices of goods and services from a wide range of the most-purchased items in over 200 towns and cities across the United Kingdom and the ONS compares how this changes over time.

This is the perfect part-time role for a person looking for a customer service, sales, or administration role - that has existing commitments, childcare, or caring responsibilities looking to supplement their income.

You will attend the same locations, for the same items each month; each collection will be between 800 & 1500 items, from 15-20 locations in the location, including:

  • Supermarkets & convenience stores
  • Restaurants & Bars
  • Discount retailers
  • Clothing shops
  • Home stores (DIY shops, Carpet shops, Sofa shops)
  • Cinemas
  • Mechanics' garages
  • Tobacconists

Essential Skills

Essential:

  • The use of a car is mandatory
  • No experience is necessary and full training will be given
  • Successful applicants will need to complete successful DBS, identity, Employment and Right to Work checks
  • Collectors are required to use a handheld device to record prices in real time, and therefore electronic device literacy is important
  • Applicants must be over 18
  • Applicants must be able to prioritise the data collection over other work commitments
  • Collectors work as part of a team across geographic regions
