Real Life Stories at Capita
Jane Forde - RSPCA Advisor
I’ve been part of the wider Capita team since 2016, first joining the William Hill account, before joining the RSPCA account as a customer service advisor in 2021. Since joining, I’ve found real enjoyment in being able to help people with their queries and problems. I’m also supported when it comes to asking my own queries to my team leader. Everyone gets along on my team. They’re very open and I’m always able to ask for help. This was reflected in the training I received. As someone with dyslexia, I was provided with all the extra support I needed to make sure training went smoothly. After seven years here, I’m not planning on leaving anytime soon. Capita has made my career progress further than I expected it to. I’ve also been able to explore multiple areas of the business and learn new skills all as part of a diverse team.
Liz Nicholls – Team Manager – Financial Services Account Team
I’m Liz, a team manager working on the banking account team. I started here five years ago and haven’t looked back since. I’m very much a people person so I’m incredibly happy working in the contact centre where I can talk to, and help, customers and my team.
Although I love supporting people, I’ve also felt incredibly supported in many aspects of both my work and personal life. From the training I receive to the flexibility in shift changes, to even when I sadly lost my partner, Capita have been completely accommodating to my needs. After being made redundant at my last job as a 60+ woman, I didn’t think I would get another job. But then I found Capita and now see myself living out my working life here. I’m kept young here and on my feet, constantly learning new things, plus I still have development opportunities regularly offered to me. I think it’s an experience other older people would find rewarding and fulfilling, just like me.
Belynda Gelder – Team Manager - RSPCA
I joined Capita 18 years ago and had never considered working in a call centre before joining. Over the years, I’ve worked in several different departments within Capita but am currently a team manager on the RSPCA account.
Capita is wonderful. I love coming into the office, learning new things and interacting with my team, even though there are hybrid or flexible working options. I find I’m happiest when I’m challenged, which comes often as a mentor. There are also great opportunities to progress but I’m definitely happy where I am currently, and am prepared to live out my working life in this role; a job I truly love. I believe that as long as older workers, like me, are willing to listen and work hard, I see no reason why they shouldn’t consider a role with Capita.
Trish O’Hara – Banking Advisor – Financial Services Account Team
I’m Trish, I joined Capita 18 years ago with no call centre experience but I could type on a keyboard and use a PC. This was enough for me to find my place here, and since then I’ve grown in my role and I’m now a banking advisor for the banking account team, supporting a renowned high-street banking client. In my role, I coach and support new starters in the business to learn the ropes just like I did.
There are multiple different working options for me to choose from but currently I am on fixed shifts, which has been beneficial for my work/life balance. I could work from home but I prefer the camaraderie that comes with being in the office.
Overall, I can’t fault Capita. Even though it can be hard work, the support from my team makes it all worth it. For any new joiners or those thinking of joining, I advise you to ask for help if you need it. You’ll always be accommodated for and supported, which will help you learn and grow in your role.
Wellbeing at Capita
The wellbeing and mental health of our colleagues is extremely important to us. We want to maintain a happier, healthier, more productive, and more fulfilled workforce. To achieve that, we provide lots of support, including access to our wellbeing hub, which gives our people support with their mental, physical, social and financial wellbeing.
- Employee Assistance Programme
- Trained mental health first aiders and wellbeing champions across the business
- Employee network groups (ENGs) offering support and guidance, representing different diversity groups, including:
- Forums and groups on topics like neurodiversity, parents and carers, and the effects of the menopause
- Paid time off to volunteer in your local community – either taken as a full day or spread out across several weeks. We offer a range of inspiration to help our people choose the kind of impact they want to make with the skills and experience they already have.
Capita diversity statement
We can only create better outcomes with the right people behind us. That’s why we encourage an open, honest working environment where everyone can be themselves and be valued for their differences. Join us and you’ll have the opportunity to work on a variety of diverse and exciting projects while growing and developing your career in any number of directions.
We value differences and encourage everyone to bring their ‘whole self’ to work. Whoever you are, we want you to know that you can be yourself here. We’re doing everything we can to support our employees’ needs.
