About the role

We have a fantastic opportunity for a Head of Technical to join our team, based in Canary Wharf, London.

Our Major Projects business delivers large-scale, innovative, and complex infrastructure projects which keep the UK moving and the economy thriving. We operate within three principal markets; Transportation; Energy and Power, and Major Infrastructure.

As Head of Technical you will plan and deliver strategic change for Major Projects and Highways to drive an improvement in design management, driving productivity and an organisation culture shift.

What you'll be doing

Other key responsibilities will be:

  • Lead Design Management community and the Strategic Design Partnership
  • Embed a culture of modern methods of construction (offsite, design for manufacture, standardisation)
  • Create and deliver an enabling digital strategy.
  • Position Major Projects to compete in new markets (e.g., complex facilities)
  • Engage with industry bodies to ensure that Balfour Beatty is a first adopter of relevant technology.
  • Develop technical capability to differentiate BB from our competition.
  • Development of engineering resource to support change through training and recruitment.
  • Support the delivery of Sustainability Blueprint
  • Maintain high standards of quality.
  • Conduct senior management safety and environmental tours.
  • Keep up to date with changes in legislation and cascade information to the team.

Who we're looking for

What we are looking for:

  • A strong background in design management working in both the consultant and contractor and designer sector.
  • Able to demonstrate leadership and the ability to drive change.
  • Extensive industry network including industry bodies, academic institutions, competitors, and supply chain.
  • Previous experience of leading a large multi discipline team within an engineering position
  • Knowledge of design (temporary and permanent), planning, engineering, materials, and bidding
