This is a UK remote first role, with an option to work from our Manchester office for those who want to. You may be asked to occasionally attend meetings in Manchester (find out more about our hybrid working policy at colleagues.coop.co.uk/hybrid-working-policy).

We're looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join our Platform Engineering (DevEx) team to support the design, build, and operation of Co-op applications and systems. This team helps to improve the development experience for other Engineers, and they use multiple languages such as Python, Terraform, JavaScript, etc.

At Co-op, collaboration is part of who we are, and we work in small, multi-disciplinary, and agile teams, and utilise pair and ensemble programming. We'll provide you with career and technical coaching to support your learning and development, and we run communities of practice to promote knowledge-sharing across our teams. What you'll do

• Work collaboratively to build, maintain, and support Co-op applications and systems
• Take a 'hands-on' approach to developing software iteratively and to a high standard ; following the lean software development principles
• Share your knowledge and skills with colleagues as part of our communities of practice sessions
• Provide guidance, coaching, and training to other Engineers to support their technical development
• Resolve technical challenges; making sure that solutions meet our business needs

This role would suit people who have

• Significant experience in a 'hands-on' Software Engineering role; implementing and maintaining applications and services
• Experience of tooling and practices for automated build, integration, and deployment, as well as developing iteratively towards an end-goal
• Experience writing tests and owning the testing process
• Strong programming skills, with experience using at least one of the following languages: Python, Terraform, JavaScript, C#, Go, Bush, Ruby, and/or Shell
• An understanding of Lean Agile methodologies and practices
• A good understanding of architectural patterns and practices
• An interest in trunk-based development and enjoys working in pairs or ensembles
