SECURITY OFFICER
HMP FIVE WELLS, WELLINGBOROUGH, NN8 2NG
£26,493.23 per annum
Permanent, Full Time - 39 hours per week, with various shifts

A brand new contract, large scale employment opportunities; HMP Five Wells in Wellingborough is setting a new standard for new build prisons of the future, using forward-thinking design and technology. After opening in early 2022, the Prison is the UK's first purpose-built resettlement Prison and has become an integral part of the local community.
G4S Care & Rehabilitation Services (CaRS) already successfully manages 4 prisons, one secure training centre and a number of community contracts in England and Wales. The philosophy of our prisons is to rehabilitate offenders and equip them to re-integrate into mainstream society on release. We seek to normalise prison conditions as far as possible to reflect life in the outside community. Our aim is to create an environment in which staff and residents feel safe.
Security Officers (SOs) are key to the effective security of our prison and we are looking for a number of people who can fit naturally into this role.
You will possess strong organisational and communication skills, and will be dedicated to providing a high quality security service.
Key responsibilities:
- To ensure only those staff, visitors and contractors who are authorised to enter the establishment do so.
- To control pedestrian and vehicle access points safely and securely.
- To ensure that no member of staff either directly or non-directly employed leaves the establishment with equipment requiring secure storage such as keys, radios and body worn video cameras.
- To maintain the establishment running roll count on entry and exit of prisoner escort vehicles.
- To provide escort duties for contractor vehicles entering the establishment.
- To be responsible for following searching policies relating to searching the person and searching of vehicles.
- To provide escort duties for social and legal visitors entering the establishment.
- To monitor CCTV systems within the Visits Hall.
- To carry out Control Room Operator duties; Managing UHF radio traffic, monitoring establishment CCTV systems, co-ordinate response to alarms, control of prisoner movements, answering internal and external telephone traffic and maintaining establishment roll counts.
- To carry out searches of incoming prisoner property.
- To accurately record prisoner property.
- To respond to queries regarding prisoner property.
- To supervise and task prisoners employed within the property stores.
- To handle incoming and outgoing prisoner and official mail; To include random monitoring, directed photocopying and testing using indicative testing equipment.
- To carry out routine and intelligence led monitoring of PIN Phone telephone calls.

Key Competencies:
- To be smart in appearance at all times to enable delivery of Front of House expectations.
- To be IT literate and comfortable with both Windows based and Google operating systems.
- Must be competent in using database and spreadsheet applications such as MS Excel and Google Sheets.
- Must be competent in using word processing applications such as MS Word and Google Docs.
- To be polite and mindful of the needs of all who may be interacted with either in person or via remote communications including staff, visitors and contractors.
- To work seamlessly with other team members.
- To be able to contribute to the department and function strategy.
