Salary £45.980.00 per annum

Permanent, Full Time, 40 hours per week

At Oakhill Secure Training Centre we look after young people aged 12 to 18 years old who have been remanded or sentenced to periods of detention. The vulnerable young people in our care can be challenging with a wide range of social and emotional complex needs. This is an environment that calls for high standards of social care and service delivery to provide a secure and stable environment for young people to develop their life skills and address the behaviours that have led them into custody.

Oakhill Secure Training Centre works closely with the Youth Custody Services to ensure that its regimes and designs reflect best practice in residential care to prevent offending.

An opportunity has arisen for a Senior Security Manager to join the team here at Oakhill Secure Training Centre

The successful candidate will be responsible for all aspects of the day-to-day running of a residential housing level within a Secure Training Centre, including promoting the safeguarding of young people's welfare. You will also act as Duty Director

Key Responsibilities:

  • Coach, support and develop staff, including supervision, to maximise their performance and ensure high standards of care, values, ethical standards, equality and diversity, policies and procedures, legislation and contractual and inspection framework requirements are met.
  • Deliver the security strategy for the Centre including innovation, contingency improvements and security audits, to ensure that contractual requirements are met and that security policies and procedures are followed at all times and appropriate procedures developed as required
  • Collate and report information regarding the frequency and nature of security incidents, advising and implementing remedial action.
  • Deliver the policies and procedures for the examination of young people's mail and other safety/risk concerns to maintain the secure integrity of the Centre.
  • Foster a culture of child-focussed behaviour through positive risk assessment
  • Support contingency planning within the Centre, organising practical exercises in conjunction with the Youth Justice Board so that the Centre and its staff are prepared for incidents
  • Liaise with Police, Youth Justice Board and Courts to gather and impart security information and ensure the necessary documentation is completed.
  • Engender a positive health and safety culture to meet and maintain relevant Health and Safety recognition.
  • Manage and develop contingency planning within the Centre, ensuring regular training and development for all staff and the safety of the environment
  • Deliver lessons learnt following operational de-briefs or significant incidents
  • Undertake Duty Director Responsibilities and support the leadership team with the implementation of development strategies.
  • All staff employed by G4S has the responsibility for their own Health & Safety and to their colleagues in order to assist G4S in its obligation to achieve British Safety Council Requirements at all times.

The Ideal Candidate:

Essential Skills

  • Managerial experience within child-care
  • Willingness and ability to undertake QCF level 5 in Leadership & Management
  • Ability to complete relevant security and intelligence qualifications

Desirable Skills

  • Experience of project/ work planning, monitoring and reviewing
  • Ability to use Word, Excel, PowerPoint & Outlook Email & Calendar
