London: £100,657 - £118,420

LOCATION: Edinburgh or London

Our mission in the Payments Services Platform (PSP) is to offer compliant and efficient payment capabilities for LBG. We drive innovation to ensure customers can move money confidently, quickly, and securely. PSP is a vital part of Group Payments, serving the entire LBG organisation as an enterprise function.

As a next step in our journey, we plan to set up a centre of excellence for digital assets and currencies. For this new initiative we're looking for an Engineering Lead to join our new Digital Assets & Currencies (Paytech) lab.

As the Engineering Lead, you'll contribute to the creation and implementation of reliable systems and solutions. You'll oversee the development of software that meets customer needs, while supporting your engineering teams. This leadership role requires both technical expertise and a passion for mentoring and developing others, with the opportunity to lead a team in exploring new payment technologies and shaping technical designs for our business partners and customers.

Here's where you'll make a difference:

  • Function as a trusted advisor, providing expert guidance and recommendations on technology strategy, transformation, and innovation roadmaps.

  • Provide guidance on standard processes for using emerging technologies like digital assets, tokenization, blockchain, distributed ledger, and smart contracts to overcome business challenges and stay ahead.
  • Conduct comprehensive assessments across the Payments technology landscape, identifying gaps and opportunities.
  • Assess and determine the technical feasibility/relevance of proposals for sophisticated products/services with guidance from collaborators and specialized areas, such as the Chief Security Office.

What you'll need

  • Experience across the Payments domain, industry, and technology ecosystem, in addition to knowledge of the wider industry landscape, considering how the new Payments marketplace would integrate with existing Payment types and schemes.
  • Experience in providing Software Engineering oversight, technical and people leadership across multiple teams.
  • Experience in and deep knowledge of DLT, API, Tokenisation products/ services.
  • Responsibility for implementing formal development frameworks for a lab, while coaching and mentoring others and investing in your own personal development.
  • Ability to meet changing requirements by developing new testing approaches and strategies for a defined range of products and/or operations.
  • Experience of inspiring delivery through large cross-functional teams, deploying strategic technology solutions and engaging with global partners and suppliers.
  • Experience of collaborating with Fintechs and other organisations to achieve a common goal.
  • The capacity to have an impact on various levels of the organisation and effectively communicate choices and decisions to senior leaders.
  • Evidence of championing capability growth, people development and continuous improvement. Building a positive culture that attracts and retains talent.
  • Experience in developing strategies and implementing plans to achieve organisational goals in alignment with the overall technology strategy.
  • Ability to address risks across our current service through investing in our assets and security capabilities.

And any experience of these would be really useful:

  • Experience of technology consultancy and / or research and development.
