Do you want to make a difference to the lives of refugees, asylum seekers and vulnerable migrants? You could help them to draw on their own strengths to cope with crisis and to rebuild their lives. The British Red Cross is a volunteer led organisation and the UK's largest independent provider of services and support for refugees and people seeking asylum. British Red Cross volunteers help thousands of refugees, asylum seekers and vulnerable migrants every year enabling people to draw upon their own strengths to withstand crisis and rebuild their lives. We are looking for enthusiastic volunteers with a range of skills to volunteer at our Hackney Centre. At the centre we give out supermarket vouchers, food and hygiene products, have laundry and shower facilities, run activities, give out clothing, and run therapeutic sessions. We are looking for volunteers to support with the following group activities: - Tuesdays 10:30am-1:00pm - IT/digital skills sessions. - Tuesdays 1:30pm-4pm - IT/digital skills sessions. We are looking for volunteers who: - Are confident speaking to new people from a variety of countries and backgrounds, to make them feel welcome and to engage them in activities and conversation. - Have strong communication skills and are empathetic about the situation and needs of refugees, asylum seekers and vulnerable migrants. - Can be flexible and adaptable. - Have good IT skills. Volunteers should be able to; - Volunteer at the British Red Cross Centre in Hackney (92 Dalston Lane, Hackney, London, E8 1NG) - Be able to volunteer on a regular weekly basis. - Be available to support a 2.5 hour shift one day a week - please see the activities list above for dates and times. - Can commit to volunteering for a minimum of 6 months. Our IT classes support participants starting at a basic level and include topics such as: Using Gmail, Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Zoom, Google Maps and more.
