Job Description

We are searching for a volunteer to provide expertise in charity law for our newly established charity (CIO status). As an expert volunteer, you will play a crucial role in ensuring our organization operates within legal guidelines.

What will you be doing?

The charity has previously operated as an unincorporated charity for 46 years supporting a chronic and inherited blood disorder. We are currently seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable volunteer to provide expertise in charity law for our newly established charity (CIO status). As an expert volunteer, you will play a crucial role in ensuring our organization operates within legal guidelines and fulfills its mission effectively.

What are we looking for?

  1. Legal Knowledge: A strong understanding of charity law, including relevant legislation and regulations, is essential. This includes knowledge of governance, compliance, tax-exempt status, fundraising regulations, and other legal aspects specific to charitable organizations.
  2. Communication Skills: Good communication skills are crucial for a charity lawyer. They should be able to articulate legal concepts clearly and effectively, both in written and oral communication. This includes drafting legal documents, providing advice to stakeholders, and representing the charity in legal matters.
  3. Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills: Charity lawyers need to have strong analytical and problem-solving abilities to identify legal issues, evaluate risks, and develop appropriate strategies. They should be able to analyze complex legal situations and provide practical solutions.
  4. Attention to Detail: Paying attention to detail is important for a charity lawyer to ensure accuracy and precision in legal documents, contracts, and compliance requirements. They should be meticulous in reviewing and analyzing legal information.
  5. Time Management: Effective time management skills are essential for a charity lawyer to handle multiple tasks, meet deadlines, and prioritize work effectively. They should be able to manage their workload efficiently and handle time-sensitive legal matters.
  6. Collaboration and Interpersonal Skills: Charity lawyers often work closely with board members, staff, volunteers, and external stakeholders. They should have strong collaboration and interpersonal skills to build relationships, work effectively in teams, and communicate with diverse individuals.

What difference will you make?

You would be assisting the charitywith the following:

  • Provide guidance and advice on legal matters related to charity law, including governance, compliance, and regulatory requirements.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of policies and procedures to ensure legal compliance.
  • Stay updated on changes in charity law and inform the organization of any relevant updates or implications.
  • Collaborate with the board of trustees and other volunteers to ensure legal compliance and good governance practices.
