Job Description

As a trainee youth leader, you will be supporting the senior youth leaders to create a safe, inclusive and engaging environment where the young people can develop social, emotional and practical skills.

What will you be doing?

What would you be doing?

  1. Familiarise yourself with Policies and Procedures: Review and Understand the organisation's policies and procedures regarding child protection, health and safety etc
  2. Attend Training and Orientation: Participate in orientation sessions and training sessions provided by the orginisation
  3. Support Program Delivery: Assist in delivering workshops, ensuring that they are engaged and safe
  4. Supervise Children: Provide supervision and support to children during activities, ensuring their safety and well-being at all times
  5. Provide emotional support: Offer emotional support and guidance to children who may be experiencing difficulties or challenges and be attentive to their needs
  6. Promote Inclusivity and Diversity: Foster an inclusive and supportive environment where children from diverse backgrounds feel valued!
  7. Communicate with Parents/Guardians: Maintain open and effective communication with parents/guardians providing
  8. Document and Report/ Attend team meetings: Keep accurate records of attendance, incidents, and any relevant observations, and report any concerns or incidents to senior staff members as per the organisation's procedures and attend meetings to discuss their day and the rest of the week
  9. Maintain a safe environment: Regularly inspect and maintain equipment and facilities to ensure they are safe and suitable for use by children
  10. Promote Positive Behaviours: Encurange and reinforce positive behaviour and social skills among children, using positive reinforcement techniques and appropriate disciplinary measures when necessary

1. Excellent Communication Skills: Ability to effectively communicate with young people, colleagues, and stakeholders from diverse backgrounds, both verbally and non-verbally.

2. Empathy and Understanding: Capacity to empathize with young people's experiences, challenges, and emotions, and provide non-judgmental support and guidance.

3. Teamwork and Collaboration: Aptitude for working collaboratively with senior youth leaders, volunteers, and other staff members to plan and deliver programs and activities effectively.

4. Adaptability and Flexibility: Willingness to adapt to changing circumstances, schedules, and requirements, and remain flexible in responding to the needs of young people and the organization.

5. Interest in Youth Development: Genuine interest in the holistic development of young people, including their social, emotional, cognitive, and physical well-being, and a passion for making a positive difference in their lives.

6. Willingness to Learn: Openness to learning new skills, receiving constructive feedback, and actively seeking out opportunities for personal and professional growth and development.

7. Experienced: At last three years experience of engaging, mentoring and working with young people in a professional setting

What difference will you make?

Your role will be instrumental in empowering and inspiring young people to reach their full potential and become active confident members of their community. You will also help make these young people's half-terms more memorable as you help them to have fun and enjoy the activities and workshops that are being given to them during the weeks. This will also be beneficial for building your CV.
