Project Manager for the Step Change Fund Oxfordshire

Reach Volunteering

Job Description

We are looking for volunteer Project Managers to give their time and expertise to support local charities

What will you be doing?

Charities that are successful in securing a grant from the Step Change Fund work alongside one of our Project Managers, to help deliver against a fully costed plan in order to realise their desired step change. The Project Managers are there to support the charity leaders, to act as a sounding board when needed and to work with the Step Change Panel and our donors to help deliver the projects as effectively as possible.

We are looking for people who have experience of delivering and managing projects to volunteer to join our current team of Project Managers. The role is very flexible (more so than a trustee role). At the commencement of the project, the project manager works with the charity leader to agree the project plan and the milestones against which each tranche of the Step Change grant will be paid. They also agree a way of working together, reporting on progress and dealing with bumps in the road. Each project demands around a day a month of input and after an initial meeting, some updates can take place by phone.

What are we looking for?

This role requires people with good project management skills, and empathy. Working alongside some of the brightest and most talented members of Oxfordshire's voluntary sector, your role is to support and to encourage whilst ensuring that the Step Change grant is being used to best effect for disadvantaged people in Oxfordshire.

What difference will you make?

Our Project Managers work with some of the most talented charity leaders in Oxfordshire to help them deliver the projects funded by their Step Change grant. The Step Change Fund will contribute to a charity's overheads, and funding can be over a 1-3 year period. Our funding is aimed at supporting charities that make a difference in alleviating poverty and hardship in Oxfordshire. This support takes the form of financial resources but the role of the Project Manger can also be key in supporting charity leaders. We recognise that things do not always go according to plan. Project Managers can help by working alongside charity leaders as they make decisions about how to respond to changing circumstances.
