Reading Coach

The mission of Read Easy is to harness the initiative, energy, skills and experience of volunteers, and equip them to provide confidential, one-to -one reading coaching for adults in their communities who want to improve their reading.

Coaches provide two 30 minute coaching sessions per week to their Reader. This can be either face to face or online using the phonics-based programme and resources provided by Read Easy.

Once trained, you will be linked with an adult who wants to improve their reading, and will then help them work through the Turning Pages phonics-based reading programme.

Skills

• an ability to talk and listen to the person you coach in a patient, positive, encouraging and purposeful way;
• a non-judgemental attitude and a positive respect for others, regardless of abilities, ethnicity, gender, religion, sexual orientation or age;
• an ability to focus on your Reader and his or her needs;
• an ability to work alone, seeking support when necessary;
• reliability and consistency;
