Whether it’s drizzle or a torrential downpour you’re having to contend with, it makes sense to be prepared before you set foot outside.
Outerwear
When it’s bucketing down outside it’s your outer layer that matters. Go for something lightweight and generously sized so that you can wear, for example, a chunky jumper underneath if it’s chilly. Obvs knee length or longer is best as more of whatever you’re wearing underneath will keep dry.

Layers are key – it may be raining outside but that doesn’t necessarily mean it’s freezing cold – or unseasonably warm.
Dark colours work best when you are contending with puddles. Pastel colours show up the wet patches.
Trousers
Best to avoid full length trousers in the wet, they’ll soak up the water and leave you with damp hems. Alternatively tuck them into the tops of your ankle boots to avoid any sogginess. Even better, choose lightweight cropped trousers with knee length boots – always a chic look, wet or dry. Skinny jeans or leggings are great in a gale – no flapping hems banging your ankles, they hold their shape and they tend to dry quickly too.
Dresses
Forget floor/ankle length dresses. A midi with knee length boots will keep you looking great, not waterlogged.
Fabrics – it goes without saying that you will be leaving your suede and faux fur teddy coats hanging on their hooks. Layer lighter breathable fabrics for damp weather style. If chilly, pop on a thermal layer.
Footwear
Should be chunky leather with a good walking sole. Leather ankle boots with a slight block heel for example.
