Just a quick one. Both Annabel and I occasionally suffer from itchy eyelids. I went to the optician’s yesterday and he said that itchy eyes is one of the symptoms of Blepharitis. Apparently, oils and other products normally secreted by the eye and eyelids build up on the lid surface and eyelashes, resulting in irritation and often redness. Apparently it is a common disorder – thankfully one that can be easily managed.
Symptoms to look out for include:
- Loss of eyelashes
- Eye irritation
- Itchy eyelids
- Sensitivity to light
- Swollen eyelids
- Burning sensation
- Lots of crusty debris (we used to call it “sleepy dust” in our family)
Cleaning our eyelids every day is the answer and I am now trying, on my optician’s recommendation, Blephasol. It is a gentle product yet will remove even waterproof mascara, so I am using it instead of my normal make up remover wipes. It is dermatologically tested and simplicity itself to use – simply add a drop or two onto the cotton pads provided and wipe. No need to rinse and it’s suitable for sensitive skin and contact lens wearers. It doesn’t sting, just gently cleanses and I like the fact it has anti-bacterial properties. Also available as prepacked wipes (Blephaclean) or a gel in a pump dispenser (Blephagel). Anyhow, if you too suffer from any of the above symptoms, you might like to try Blephasol too.
