SAMANTHA SHANNON

This book, The Bone Season, is written by Samantha Shannon, a 23 year old Oxford graduate and she has been compared, very favourably, to JK Rowling and therefore this book may be the start of a series similar to Harry Potter. I gave it to my 22 year old daughter and as a die-hard Potter fan she was going to be a tough critic but she loved it and her only criticism was that the ending was weak but she realised that this is because it leaves it open for book 2! However she did say that it was more Hunger Games than Harry Potter nevertheless she was captivated and is excited about the next book so I think this could be perfect for all those readers pining for Harry who have matured and have also enjoyed The Hunger Games.

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION:

The year is 2059. Nineteen-year-old Paige Mahoney is working in the criminal underworld of Scion London, based at Seven Dials, employed by a man named Jaxon Hall. Her job: to scout for information by breaking into people’s minds. For Paige is a dreamwalker, a clairvoyant and, in the world of Scion, she commits treason simply by breathing. It is raining the day her life changes for ever. Attacked, drugged and kidnapped, Paige is transported to Oxford – a city kept secret for two hundred years, controlled by a powerful, otherworldly race. Paige is assigned to Warden, a Rephaite with mysterious motives. He is her master. Her trainer. Her natural enemy. But if Paige wants to regain her freedom she must allow herself to be nurtured in this prison where she is meant to die.

The Bone Season introduces a compelling heroine and also introduces an extraordinary young writer, with huge ambition and a teeming imagination. Samantha Shannon has created a bold new reality in this riveting debut.

Finally my daughter says to ignore most of the reviews on Amazon because Samantha Shannon never asked to be compared to JK Rowling as all comparisons are odious! She is a stand alone author with a lot of talent.
