Let’s be happy with what we wear – no more in or out of fashion

November 12, 2021

This article was written for Annabel & Grace, which is now part of Rest Less.

By now, i.e. at our age, we should be able to wear what we want when we want. Unfortunately, fashion is such a restrictive word as it is usually pre-empted by the phrase in or out of fashion. But nothing is out of fashion as anything goes so long as you feel good you will look good. Clothes for older women can be dowdy but without looking like mutton dressed as lamb we think we have found some outfits that are fashionably fun.

If you want colourful clothes then Kettlewell Colours is the place to go. They have over 300 colours in their range which I think means everyone can find a colour to love. You can match items as I have done in the first picture or be as vibrant as you want as Grace has done with her outfit of dark olive Palazzo pants £49 and a true red coatigan £139. Shoes Calla Suede Loafers £119 (most comfortable shoes especially if you have bunions)

In the second picture we have gone for a more dressed up look. Grace is still in Palazzo pants but in Indigo but she has jazzed it up with a Maria cowl long sleeve top in geranium. I have changed into one of their most flattering Jersey Maxi Skirts £65 in Blue Spruce, the Marianne fringed cardigan £89 in matching Blue Spruce, Print Belt £65 in Spruce Leopard and Silky Crew neck True red £39.

If you are looking for a jacket that just adds some pzazz to an outfit you already own then try their Leonie Leopard Jacket £109 (Annabel in Laguna and Grace in Cinnamon – 2 other colours available).

Kettlewell Colour is a brand that produces quality clothes that wash and wear so well. I have Tee-shirts that I bought many years ago that I have worn to death and they look brand new still.

After a very difficult two years, Hope Fashion has come through the pandemic and are back with a fabulous new collection. We haven’t had a need to wear any smart outerwear for the past two winters as we lurched from lockdown to tiers (do you remember those?) and back to lockdown. So we thought that this year is the time to invest in some warm outerwear.

I am in the Reversible Faux Shearling Gilet Winter White £150 over their Recycled Breton Knit £150. (Jeans by NRBY and boots from Marks & Spencer last season). Grace is looking .vibrant in the Luxurious Cashmere Blend Boyfriend Jumper – Emerald Green £175 with matching wrap which has sadly sold out 😢.

In the second picture I am wearing the same gilet over the Viscose Roll Neck winter white £45. Grace is clearly loving the Reversible Faux Shearling Coat £295 (sadly the brown has sold out but it is available in black).

Have a look at the party wear that has just landed at Hope Fashion. We will be sparkling in these in a couple of weeks!

Silver Pink is an independent company founded by Sally Jones that sells beautiful, feminine clothes made in Britain.

“It’s about creating a capsule collection made of amazing colours that work together.”

Silver Pink company has grown from a cashmere cardigan, to a range of jumpers, cardigans & tunics, and to introducing stunning new shirt dresses, which you can wear at least 4 different ways!

Grace and I popped these two Jacket Cardigans £145 in Ocean Blue and Lilac on and just felt so smart and yet the design is so delicate. Grace teamed hers with a plain white tee-shirt whilst I added the sleeveless blouse from Me+Em £75.

I am wearing the new Silver Pink straight leg black jeans £45. And I love them as they are so flattering with just the right amount of stretch.

Watch out for the new silk collection from Silver Pink that we will be showing you in December when we hope you might have a few party invitations so you may want something a little more special.

We listen to our readers when they say that they love our fashion suggestions however can we suggest items for people on a budget. This is often difficult as we don’t want to recommend clothes that look good when you first put them on but after one wash they may lose their shape or colour.

However, both Marks and Spencer and Artichoke Collection are two companies that produce or sell good quality clothes and accessories.

Here Grace and I are back in our red and green theme. It is becoming our go-to colour combination and strangely I have never been a khaki colour lover but this season there is so much of it about that I decided to try it out. This demonstrates that sometimes you can step out of your suggested colour range (officially I am a ‘Summer’) and if you don’t wear it all over or combine it with a colour you do know suits you it can work.

Three coats from Marks and Spencer with two bags from Artichoke collections.

ON LEFT: Marks & Spencer Hooded Faux fur lined Parka £110, with Kettlewell Silky Crew neck True red £39, Artichoke Tote bag leather £59 and red suede loafers from Calla (last season but new colours in this shape available HERE). Grace is wearing Marks & Spencer Quilted Coat £79 with the Isabelle Leather Crossbody bag £45 leather (many colours available) from Artichoke Collections.

ON RIGHT: I swapped with Grace and popped on the Marks & Spencer Marks & Spencer Quilted Coat £79 and paired it with the Kettlewell Colours 100% Merino Wool Connie Sweater in Mulberry £79 with the olive Tote bag £59 from Artichoke Collections. Grace is wearing the Marks and Spencer Single Breasted Coatigan £45 with the Kettlewell Colours Molly Square neck £35 in Blue Spruce.

For your information: Annabel wears size 10 coats from M&S, Kettlewell tops Medium and bottoms small. Silver Pink tops size medium and jeans size 10 regular. Hope – dual slim. Grace wears M&S size 12, Kettlewell tops Large and bottoms medium. Silver Pink – large. Hope – Dual Slim.
