Everytime I go to an art exhibition I feel inspired to be creative. As I journey back home, I imagine what I am going to do – paint a rose from our garden, an ethereal watercolour of the South Downs, or a take a really good photo of a friend’s much-loved Labrador. I convince myself that I will be creative at the earliest opportunity because I find it so relaxing and rewarding. However, like many other women, my life is jam packed with work and family life and the art materials always stay in the cupboard gathering dust. What’s to be done?
The answer is simple. An art and photography course. Where I can while away the long peaceful hours with some like-minded people and explore my creativity. This is something BackPacking Granny did in Greece recently and she absolutely loved every second of her time there.
One of our regular A&G contributors introduced us to CreateHUB, a company which offers some very interesting art and photographic workshops. You can choose from a bespoke one-to-one workshop through to a master class for up to eight people. Locations range from London to Lamu – so the world is your creative oyster.
Photographer and artist, Michael Potter, who is the founder and head tutor of CreateHUB explains “You will be stretched creatively but your mindset will be transformed by viewing images through the eyes of the professionals you have worked with. You will come away deeply proud of your work at the end of each workshop or masterclass.”

“To spend a week in wonderful locations, with new people of the same mindset, great food and comfortable surroundings is indeed a treat. Add improving one’s creative, artistic and visual skills through CreatHUB’s tutors makes it a unique and fulfilling experience. I have attended two workshops. One in Pollenca in Mallorca and the other on the exotic island paradise of Lamu on Kenya’s east coast. Both offered so many visual feats to photograph, sketch and paint it was hard to know where to start or finish.

Another upcoming event is a creative master class in Florence, Italy on 14 – 18 November 2019. This sounds sensational and includes a visit to one of the great Florentine fashion houses (Gucci, Pucci, Cavalli or Ferragamo) to view their latest collections, a private session with a local fashion designer to understand how couture is created, before photographing or drawing the work with a professional model. There’s also a private visit to Aquaflor, the famous Florentine perfume house founded in 1893 by Sileno Cheloni, to create your own bespoke perfume and sketch/ photograph the atmospheric palazzo in which the company is located. This residential course is based in the Continentale Hotel, one of the best four hotels in Florence overlooking the Ponte Vecchio. This four day, full board workshop is limited to four attendees and includes airport transfers. £4250 per person excluding flights.
