Magnesium is a much needed nutrient and women are often deficient

Magnesium is a nutrient that the body needs to stay healthy. It is essential for many processes in the body, including regulating muscle and nerve function, blood sugar levels, and blood pressure and making protein, bone, and DNA.

People get magnesium from their diet, but sometimes supplements are needed if magnesium levels are too low. Dietary intake of magnesium may be low, particularly among women.

Personal experience

I suffer from low magnesium. Perhaps suffer is the wrong verb as there are no outward symptoms that alert one to a lack of magnesium. However, when I broke my shoulder, due to my age I had to have a scan for osteoporosis. It showed that I had minor osteoporosis in one hip, so I was prescribed calcium and magnesium. My GP then told me that many women have low magnesium levels in their bodies and should take a magnesium supplement. He told me that my feelings of sluggishness and fatigue could be due to this and not just as I thought because I was getting older.

Consequences of Magnesium deficiency

The possible consequences of magnesium deficiency are muscle twitches and cramps, fatigue and muscle weakness, high blood pressure, asthma, irregular heartbeat and mental disorders.

Medical warning

If you’re taking a daily magnesium supplement that provides more than 350 mg, it is recommended that you do so only under medical supervision. Though magnesium toxicity is rare, taking certain magnesium supplements at high doses may cause diarrhoea, accompanied by nausea and abdominal cramping.

A reputable manufacturer

It is therefore sensible to find a reputable supplier of magnesium supplements. Grace and I have for some time used FutureYou Cambridge for our health supplements.

Grace recently tried and tested Krill Oil from FutureYou Cambridge. Whilst her results were not what she expected, her Omega-3 levels remained steady; she was still very keen to ensure they did not drop. Her review is HERE.

I have now been taking Magnesium+ supplements from FutureYou Cambridge for over two years. I have had a further test, and my levels have improved. However, I now know that I need to continue to do for the rest of my life. At the age of 62, I feel that any help I can give my body is essential.

I wake up in the morning and bounce out of bed, ready for my regular Yoga sessions. However, I want to take care as I do not want to deteriorate faster than necessary! We will all suffer wear and tear, but luckily, supplements that can help have become part of our lives.

I recently went to a talk by a renowned doctor who said that most of the fruit and vegetables that we buy from the supermarket would not contain the expected nutrients. Much of the fruit and veg available in supermarkets will have come from abroad and been ripened artificially as they travelled. Unless we grow our own, we probably are not getting the necessary vitamins and nutrients that our body needs.

The Magnesium+ from FutureYou Cambridge contains a magnesium lactate formulation which is proven to be at least 2 times more absorbable than magnesium oxide. I highlight this because I think if we are to take supplements we must buy them from a reputable company.

FutureYou Cambridge have kindly offered a 15% discount on any of their supplements for our readers. The code is: AG1ZP Click here to purchase your Magnesium+ supplements.

Recently the Daily Mail interviewed Annabel for an article about the benefits of Magnesium – read now.

I have also copied two of the reviews from other women who have taken this supplement. From there you can see the benefits.

“Having suffered with aching joints for many years. Since I have been taking Magnesium from FutureYou the change has been amazing. It is such a joy to be able to bend to pick something up and not be in pain to stand again. To get up from sitting on a sofa pain free is also a joy. I shall definitely keep on taking it and recommend it highly to anyone suffering from achey joints.”

“Really easy to swallow. Helped me to sleep well and gave me lots more energy.”
