Serum8 – The SOS System For Radiant Skin

February 23, 2019

This article was written for Annabel & Grace, which is now part of Rest Less.

When the opportunity to try Serum8 skincare system was offered to me, I was intrigued. This isn’t just another serum, this is a kit that includes a microbrasion roller which is said to boost your skin’s radiance.

It’s been a while since I treated myself to a facial, but therapists have, on occasion, told me I would benefit from microbrasion (or microneedling as it is also called). The process stimulates collagen and elastin production for plumper, more radiant skin. But the idea of scarifying my face, like a lawn, was slightly off-putting which is why I never got round to trying it before now.

30 years ago, the Danish doctor Niels Bukh saw the potential of using SOS (Sucrose Octasulfate) an active ingredient that stimulates the natural growth factor in the skin that causes it to regenerate faster. He has since created the Serum8 skincare system by combining SOS with dermaroller technology.

There are two other active ingredients in Serum8. Hyaluronic Acid which plumps, firms and adds suppleness to the skin. Lactic Acid which facilitates the peeling off of the outermost dead skin cells so that new ones can take their place.

What Serum8 does not have is perfume, dyes or parabens.

Serum8 skincare system can be used for all skin types and is said to be effective at reducing fine lines, rejuvenating skin, and reducing acne scarring and enlarged pores.

It’s fair to say that we are all different – pain tolerance, skin condition, depth of wrinkles and so on. So I cannot say that you will experience exactly the same as I have when you use Serum8. But I hope my description will give you a rough idea of how it is applied and what you might expect from using it.

The Serum8 packaging is pretty impressive. Now, OK, I know that isn’t anything to do with the product but it made me feel like I was to experience something a bit special.

The kit comprises of:

Dermaroller – with 540 tiny stainless steel needles which are 0.5mm long. Easy to use with its ergonomic handle. Can be used on your face, neck, decolletage and hands.

Cleaner spray – used to sterilise the roller each time you use it.

Cleanser – apply a couple of drops onto a moist cotton pad to clean your skin.

Serum 30ml – a completely natural biocompatible gel that has been specially developed to be used on ‘perforated’ skin.

Moisturiser 50ml

Black satin carry bag

How to use

It’s simple. You spray the dermaroller to ensure it is scrupulously clean and then apply cleanser to the area of skin you are going to treat. I decided to test Serum8 on my lower face (which is where most of my ever deepening wrinkles reside), my nose (enlarged pores) and on the backs of my hands (which are really showing my age these days).

You roll the dermaroller on your skin about 4 – 6 times vertically, horizontally and diagonally. You can roll as close to your eyes and lips as you like, but as those areas are thinner they are more sensitive. I found I automatically reduced the pressure when I went over, for example, my top lip.

I was relieved to find that the dermaroller was like very mild pins and needles (and I don’t believe I have a particularly high tolerance for pain). The roller has tiny, very sharp needles that, make thousands of microscopic punctures.

Then you apply Serum8 and leave for ten minutes. During that time my skin felt pleasantly tight. In fact, I would go as far as to say I enjoyed the sensation. After that the specially developed moisturiser goes on and, when dry, you can pop on your make up. I was expecting my skin to be red and/or tender, but it wasn’t.

I am definitely going to continue using my kit a couple of times each week as I can already see an improvement, in particular, in the way the backs of my hands look ie smoother. Here are some before and after pix of people who have used Serum8 for a longer time than me:
