Job Description

Challenge Wales is looking for dedicated people to play a fundamental part in growing the Challenge Wales charity. Challenge Wales works with young people, to help develop them to their full potential through innovative learning at sea.

What will you be doing?

Challenge Wales is a young charity that continues to evolve and develop based on the needs of the young people it serves. Strategy and Planning is crucial to the charity's development, continuing to source sustainable funding to enable Challenge Wales to continue to deliver its services is essential while governance is central to the organisation and a key aspect of being a Trustee.

We are looking for new Trustees who have a genuine interest in the vision and mission of Challenge Wales with a commitment to help young people develop their life skills. We are looking for positive, can-do people with a passion for sustainability and have good & independent judgement.

We are looking for 3 new Trustees who;

  • May be a young person aged 18 - 25 years and has a lived experience relating to Challenge Wales or been a beneficiary
  • Have experience in recruitment and can help us evolve our volunteer recruitment & retention strategy
  • Have experience in income generation to help diverse the charity's income and enabling its long term survival
  • Have an experience of marine operations, maritime law and/or maritime legislation
  • Have experience in Law (preferably but not necessarily Charity Law)

What are we looking for?

Challenge Wales is looking for 2 or more Trustees with skills in different areas:

  • A Trustee with skills and experience that can continue the good governance of our charity, and work as a team to help us champion the mission and values of the Challenge Wales Charity.
  • A volunteer with skills in Income Generation who can support the fundraising strategy
  • A volunteer with access to networks and relationships with community groups and organisations that work with young people under 26 years (whether in youth work or school/college/university settings)
  • A volunteer with a Legal knowledge of Charity Law
  • A volunteer who has a knowledge of Marine operations, Maritime Legislation and Legal compliance
  • In addition, we are offering a Trustee place for an individual aged 18 - 25 years old that has either been a participant on any one of Challenge Wales programmes or has a lived experience and who is able to meet the essential requirements of the role. We will help this trustee develop their skills and abilities, knowledge and experience on an ongoing basis.

What difference will you make?

As part of our board you will help shape the strategic direction of Challenge Wales as well as helping us to work with more young people delivering innovative educational activities at sea and improving their employability prospects.
