We have had several readers asking us to do an article on how best to store shoes and boots. Everyone of us will have varying requirements – mostly depending on the size of your family or whether you are an Imelda Marcos or not! But it’s fair to assume that many of us have a number of pairs we need to get in some sort of order. Well, I’ve done some research and here are twelve brilliant storage solutions for shoes and boots for you…
1 Am no Marie Kondo but my shoes are stored in drawers in a built in wardrobe. It works for me. I can also keep the accoutrements – shoe trees, deodorising shoe spray, spare laces etc in the same place.
2 I keep my everyday trainers and other casual shoes on a shelf in our cloakroom where they are easy to pick up and put on. And, in the winter months, saves taking muddy shoes upstairs.
3 You could of course clear out a chest of drawers and use that to store your shoes.
4 Or perhaps buy an inexpensive Ikea bookcase and fill it with your footwear. Again, easy access and if you prefer not to have everything on view, you could easily add a curtain across the front.
5 Also would like to give this budget priced 10 tier extendable rack from Amazon a mention. £13.99, waterproof and – although favourable reviews it seems to take a while to assemble – but might be just the job for an understairs cupboard, or could be fixed to the wall of a garage or cloakroom.
6 Isn’t this smart? Ikea has come up trumps with these fabulous Hemnes shoe cabinets. Would look fantastic in a hallway or bedroom. £90 each.

11 This heritage-style rack is plastic coated solid steel and holds four pairs of boots. Can be used inside or outside. Currently reduced to £29.99.
12 Might be more practical to have a wall mounted rack? This oak version is from Not On The High Street and is £75.

FOR YOUR SHOES Shoe trees – especially the wooden ones – can be expensive. Try this five pair multipack from Amazon
BOOT TREES Use rolled up newspaper or a glossy magazine to keep long boots upright. There are also inflatable boot fillers, 100% cotton boot shapers, nifty little boot clips and, if you prefer wood, these aromatic cedar boot shapers. They all do a good job of keeping your boots upright and in perfect shape.
Last but definitely not least, two very handy gadgets for after a bracing but muddy walk – a jack and a scraper.
